Wendy Elizabeth Exclusive Designs in Knotted Art
Welcome to my web site
I am a self taught knot addict with a flair for the unusual and a natural ability for tying knots into imaginative and original designs without the use of patterns. I take inspiration from the natural, ancient and modern worlds to make macrame jewellery, clothes, accessories, furnishings, sculptures and masks. I use natural fibres as much as I can and, after 38 years, I am still learning new knots and techniques. This has led me to create unique hand crafted items for commissions and meet many diverse and colourful people including belly dancers, Druids and Spiritualists. Gladiators, Romans, Saxons, Celts and Mediaeval Knights!
As a ‘Knotologist’ and member of the International Guild of Knot Tyers, I am also fascinated by the history of knotting, both in usage and superstition and give fun and interactive talks. I also run small workshops (maximum of 6 people) and give private tuition.
I demonstrate regularly at Flag Fen Bronze Age Centre in Peterborough, England,
and in the past at Ruddington Framework Knitters Museum (Victorian) in Nottingham,
England (Very apt) as knotting fits historically in both eras.
I hope you enjoy browsing and if you like my designs and want something exclusive to yourself, I’ll be happy to create a design for you; just contact me.

I just have to share my latest achievement, albeit very
humble. I have produced nettle yarn!
Whilst speaking to visitors at Flag Fen Bronze Age Centre about the use of nettles, especially as a yarn for fabric, I thought it was high time that I did something other than talk. So after an on going experiment, including teaching myself to card and spin, the stinging nettles I cut from Flag Fen last summer have at last become nettle yarn. I still need a lot more practice with spinning, I’m afraid it wouldn’t pass any exam, but I feel quite proud of my first attempt. My little ball of yarn is slowly growing and I have plenty more fibres to spin up but it may be some time before I have enough to make anything!
Magazine Article
I was invited by Home & Garden magazine to write an article on macramé in the home, giving ideas for furnishings, entitled “Knots in design”; it was published in their August 2004 issue.
